There’s a lot of incredible things that are native to British Columbia, its Indigenous people, incredible animals like the spirit bear, and your favorite neighborhood cleantech company- Awesense of course! Not to mention icons like Pamela Anderson, Michael Bublé, and the inspiring environmental activist David Suzuki. So, this BC Day, we wanted to take a moment to check out all the energy in British Columbia and see what is keeping BC beautiful!
BC’s Best
Did you know that the British Columbia grid is powered by 95% renewable energy? We are extremely proud of the work we do with BC Hydro, and we would like to thank them for helping to keep BC clean and green!
Wondering where that last 5% comes from? FortisBC provides BC with natural gas to help significantly reduce the use of more harmful fossil fuels, resulting in lower carbon emissions compared to many other provinces. So, our friends at FortisBC deserve a bit of applause as well for helping BC be at its best!
The Cost of Going for Gold
Speaking of our friends over at FortisBC, they were kind enough to make sure that the Olympic Torch in Vancouver is powered by 100% renewable, BC-produced, natural gas. The torch is being lit in honor of the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo. It is being kept lit for two weeks, that is quite a bit of power considering it costs about $1500 an hour to keep it running!
