Arthur Energy Advisors taps Canadian company Awesense to boost electricity grid distribution improvement projects in Ghana and Sierra Leone
Vancouver, BC – Awesense, the organization transforming how utilities and industrials virtualize and decarbonize their systems, has teamed up with Ghanaian engineering firm, Arthur Energy Advisors to address grid challenges using data analytics towards improved performance in Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Awesense was founded over a decade ago with the goal to decarbonize, decentralize, and digitalize the world’s energy system. The company has built a powerful Data Engine that ingests, validates, corrects, synchronizes and stitches together all energy and geospatial data into an Open Energy Data Model, and a Digital Energy Platform that energy providers use to access applications to leverage their systems data. Now, Arthur Energy Advisors is using Awesense’s Digital Energy Platform to build such applications for their customers in West Africa.
Awesense and Arthur Energy Advisors conducted their first joint grid modernization project with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to optimize critical industrial operational areas in Accra and Tema, two of the most densely populated areas in the country. Awesense and the Team also identified key areas of concern and painted a clear picture of recoverable inefficiencies in the implementation areas and how to begin optimizing the power distribution system to help drive ECG’s modernization plans.
The team continues to identify opportunities and has lead to projects for significant improvements in power delivery, substantial savings to ECG and its customers, and a safer grid network for staff and industries in the affected areas.
Over in Sierra Leone, Arthur Energy Advisors and Awesense have worked with the public utility, Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority. Part of a wider project funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the companies have worked together to support significant policy reforms and improve governance in the electricity sector in Sierra Leone.
Using its data acquisition and analytics technologies, Awesense has been able to identify opportunities for infrastructure improvement funding. From analyzing existing data available to deploying additional sensing devices to gather more data from the grid, they have been able to pinpoint problematic assets that were causing serious reliability issues.
